Alcohol is vile.

It impairs a person's judgment of right and wrong. A pious, devoted husband is transformed into an adulterous and lazy slob under its influence. Young, virtuous ladies can also be ruined under the spell of the demon in the bottle. Any person of good and just morals would think twice before partaking. The Prohibition has been so beneficial to those with a weaker sense of morals.

I wonder what manner of person would revel in the illegal consumption of alcohol, especially when their soul is at stake.

lost in thought

I have looked everywhere and John, the true John, is no where to be found. How disappointing. On the other hand, with this John there can be opportunity. He does have the same wayward streak. I imagine Father would want me to reach out and attempt to help. That gives room for my other plan.

Father, what would you say? I'm listening. Tell me.

The limits of my patience are greatly tested in this City. So many ungrateful, proud sinners. And to see and hear their thoughts...utterly consumed by the demands of the body. Do they not know that time will betray them, illness and age will lay it all to waste what they put so much effort and time into? Ah, mankind. Such gifts given. Near a waste.

I wonder if these two curses are meant to pit the sexes against one another. There is a large number of women in the City, solitary without a man. The men over all have taken to their own gender for comfort and needs. A sign of the times. There are so many people as it is. Copulation and infancy are not such hit or miss tasks.

The newer shelter dwellers don't wish to go to chapel. Perhaps if I were to give incentive...that would be much, much better. An empty stomach can motivate a mind. Ah, yes.

...I'm cursed too.

Human. So very human... And yet lacking.
